Name: Atalai Scelestus-Jenkins
Nickname: Scelestus
Age: 18
Power:
She can decay both the physical and the moral/spiritual. This used to be a passive effect but she now has enough control that she only affects people and her surroundings when she actually intends to. When she turns her power on full blast she sort of turns into a human shaped pillar of oily black goop.
Can summon and control spectral barbed wires that sprout from her back.
History:
Atalai was raised by her mother, a woman named Elise Celeritous. Elise was something of a gold-digger and married many men during Atalai’s childhood, though never paying her daughter much attention.
Her last marriage was to a man named Clarence Jenkins, a billionaire artist and duke (an inherited title), albeit one with a shady past. The two seemed to find some common ground and the marriage lasted an amazing eight years.
Sadly her mother and stepfather died recently. This is just the latest in a series of tragic, and completely accidental, deaths that have plagued the family recently, and left Atalai as the near sole heir.
Appearance:
Atalai is quite tall and slender. She has tanned skin and golden eyes. Her hair is black and reaches down to her mid back. She usually keeps it in a high ponytail or in a plait.
She wears black skirts and black or purple tops with high heels. The emphasis is on classy rather than striking.
Personality:
Atalai prizes a beautiful image of elegance and opulence over all else, including morals.
She is very determined and quite focused. If she wants something then she will have it, come Hell or high water, even getting her hands dirty if there is no other option.
She is supremely confident and condescending, completely sure of her abilities her place in the world, viewing the poverty-stricken as nothing more than weak-will fools. She is firmly ensconced in her ivory tower and is enjoying the view much too much to leave
She does have some good in her and on some level she is aware of just how decayed she really is, but she has no reason to strive for anything but that, so she has decided to simply sit back and enjoy herself while she can.
In-Character Sample
The mourners gathered around the open graveside, bidding the dead farewell one last time before leaving for their cars, leaving flowers or little pieces of jewellery behind.
The last to leave was young woman dressed all in black, as was only proper, with a veil over her face and sodden tissues clutched in her hand.
She waited until the other had all left, dabbing at her eyes under the veil, then looked around surreptitiously and dropped the tissues on top of the flowers and bracelets on the coffins then bowed regally, stood and twirled.
“Checkmate, my loves.”
She walked away, getting into the back of a black limousine and reclined on the leather seats.
“Business concluded to your liking, madam?” the driver asked, looking back at her.
“Perfectly, Arian.” she said, taking a bottle of red wine from a cooler and checking the label before replacing it. “I see you got my favourite.”
“Of course, madam. I felt that champagne would be much too cliché and I felt that your day deserved nothing but the best.”
She smiled, “Thank you, Arian. Now, be sure to stop by that little bakery I like. I;ve been dying for a good chocolate cake all day. You can get anything you want of course.”
“Thank you, madam. By the way, I found the last heir, madam. Heiress, rather.”
“Oh? And who might that be?”
“A lady named Gabrielle Viaris. A step-cousin, very far removed. Guttertrash compared to you, but you have both equal claim now, though as hers is a bloodtie…”
“Hmm…” Atalai pondered, ”What do you know about her?”
“Basics, madam. Raised by a foster father since age seven, seems to do shady work for him, possibly church related.”
“Oh my. Attacks of the monks.”
Arian cleared his throat.. “Indeed. Anyways. From what I can tell she has at least one power, maybe more. Telekinesis. Not sure how powerful but I don’t believe she is a lightweight.”
“Powered up. Lovely. I suppose I can’t handle this my usual way, can I?”
“I wouldn’t advise it, madam.”
She sat back, tapping her chin.
“Find me her address.”
”I took the liberty of guessing ahead, madam.” he passed a piece of paper back to her. She took it, scanning it.
“Good work. Once we get back tell the maids to pack some of my things. Basics only of course, two suitcase, three maximum, and book me a room at the best hotel there. Indefinite stay. I want to be there by tomorrow, before four o clock.”
“I shall inform them, madam.”
“Thank you, Arian. But first, bakery.”
